What is the difference in 65lb test mono that comes in spools versus the 65lb test that specifies leader line?
Other than the price? I am talking about your monofilament. I saw 65lb line on a spool of about 150 yards for less than 50 yards of 65lb line that specified "leader line". I plan on using the 65lb line as a leader, but does it really matter if I get the stuff that specifically says leader line, or is 65lb mono always 65lb mono regardless of marketing.
I saw the fluro and was tempted, but I wasnt willing to pay that much for it especially considering that I am a novice fisherman at best. I will leave the more expensive equipment to when I am more experienced.
If the line is listed as the same, then it's the same. I've seen something similar before, where a "special" packaging of "leader" is more pricey than the filler spool with more line on it - just plain dumb. There's no difference, except that some lines, especially packaged as leader, are put in a different, easier to use package made for containing the line better. A good example would be Ande leader lines. It comes in a cool little spool that's self closing so the line doesn't coil off. I love it, but it's not worth the price because for 2 dollars more, I can have 125yds, as opposed to 65yds!
Just look at the label, and if it reads the same, then it is.
(Good point about the flouro too. Lots of manufacturers offer more flouro line sizes in leader packs as opposed to mono ones.)
