How to repair wood furniture carved?
I have a piece of very old carved wood sculptures broken and missing. What is the best material is to replace the wood carving, and how to ensure that it adheres well to the old wood? Sculptures are on the bottom leg room. They are not deep, about 1 / 4 "leg deep or more, but several inches wide around jumbo package. At first glance, I thought they were appliqued, but are actually carved in the leg. I'm sure I can mold and / or respond to carve and restore end. I think using ordinary wood putty but I fear it may be fragile, easily knocked over and fall off. Are there any other material or procedure that I could consider? Input appreciated!
If it is old and want to maintain its value, you should not attempt to repair the way you describe. You must cut appliques replacement in the same type of timber and apply using Hot Glue. In this way, it could be corrected later if necessary.
