Wood Applique
How to upgrade kitchen cabinets that have applique/trim?
My kitchen cabinet doors are dark wood colored laminate (pressboard).
The knobs are in the center of the door and there is a raised trim/applique that is on the front of the door all around the perimeter.
I want to remove the trim and and move the center knobs to the lower corners.
I don't mind the color of the cabinets, I would even like them darker wood colored. Can I paint or stain the doors? I am afraid that when I take the trim off, it will tear off the laminate and leave the pressboard underneath.
Any ideas?
You really can't stain laminate but you can paint it. The problem is getting good bonding between the paint and the laminate.
A better solution is to replace the doors or have new laminate put on the front of the doors. In the long run that will look much better and last much longer.
