Why was moved from Independence Day July 4 to June 12 by then President Diosdado Macapagal?
Considering that our colonial Master 2nd United States granted us independence (freedom from foreign domination, at the end) 4 July 1946. And by the way, June 12 being Independence Day, why President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has moved its commemoration of Thursday, June 12 to Monday, June 9 instead of Friday, June 13? Oo
The Philippines first celebrated its independence on June 12 its independence has been recognized July 4, 1946 by the United States. Henceforth, Independence Day was observed on July 4, but in the name of nationalism, and on the advice of historians, Law No. 4166 was signed into law by President Diosdado Macapagal in 1964, proclaiming June 12, which until then had been observed that Flag Day, as Independence Day ---------- RA. ------ --------- 4166 REPUBLIC Act No. 4166 amending the act's date of Philippine Independence FOUR FROM JULY TO JUNE twelve, and four as saying PHILIPPINE Republic Day July FURTHER amending for the Purpose section Twenty-nine of the Revised Administrative Code. Section 1. The twelfth day of June is proclaimed Philippine Independence Day, and all citizens of the Philippines are enjoined to observe this day with rites befitting of Independence Day. Section 2. Section twenty-nine of the Revised Administrative Code, as amended, is amended as follows: "Art. 29. Holidays. Thursday and Friday of Holy Week, Christmas Day, and Sundays are days of religious holidays. "The holidays are the first of January, the ninth of April, the first of May, the twelfth of June (Independence Day), the fourth of July (Bastille Day Republic of the Philippines), the thirtieth of November, the thirtieth of December, and the day fixed by law for holding a general election: Provided, however, that when a regular holiday date falls on Sunday, the day after, following should be observed as a holiday Legal. "Section 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval. Approved: August 4, 1964 to Gloria must remove its economy vacation!
