Malachite Green or Copper to kill Ich & Velvet?
Some say use copper some say use malachite green. I just bought Mardel's maracide which has the malachite but now i'm wondering if I should return it to get the coppersafe or maybe Quick Cure for my fish that has velvet. Maracide is a spot on treatment that treats the fish, not water, is it ideal to treat the water so the the parasite die?
So something with Copper in it WILL kill the parasites? Another question. Does the parasite only live on the bottom of the tank and on the fish? Or in the water as well?
Anything with Malachite Green in it won't kill the parasite if it is on the fish. If it is Ich, then the water needs to be heated some and then the water should be treated. Ich is a temperature sensitive parasite, and will detach from the fish when it is too hot. It is only vulnerable when it is in the water. Just be careful about how much you heat the water (just make sure you don't overheat your fish)...
I've only used Malachite Green medications but they seemed to have worked well for me in the past.
