Green Sprinkles
Does anyone remember the GOOD christmas shortbread cookies with the green and red sprinkles??
Someone said that the brand of the cookies was Jacks. Does anyone know if this is true? Are they still made? I cant find anything on them on the net.
No but I have a recipe that my friends swear taste like old time Christmas cookies. BUT it must be followed exactly...so not leave out the sour cream or nutmeg! Use real butter too. I put red / green sprinkles on before I bake them. NO NOT OVER COOK.
4 cups All Purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ t baking powder
½ t salt
½ t or more nutmeg (required)
1 c soft butter ( real butter makes better cookies)
1 ½ c sugar
1 egg
½ c sour cream (required)
1 t vanilla extract
Green / red sprinkles add before baking
Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt and nutmeg.
In large bowl of electric mixer (at med speed), beat butter, sugar, egg until light and fluffy.
At low speed, beat in sour cream and vanilla until smooth.
Gradually add flour, beating until well combined.
Form dough into ball, wrap in waxed paper, refrigerate several hours.
Roll out on floured (I use powdered sugar) surface thin and cut with cutters.
Bake 5 – 7 minutes at 325-350.
Cool on rack.
