Dyed White
Would it be againgst the law or classed as animal cruelty if I dyed my White doves with food colouring?
I want to dye my doves pink and paint some to look like parrots, Does anyone know of any legal reason why I can't do this?.
I'm only going to use food colouring so it's not permanent.

It is perfectly legal to dye your white dove, use an organic food colouring or a red factor canary food colouring.
The time to do this is a few weeks before they go through the annual moult, normally in August or September.
You must mix the food dye into water, fresh each day. It is better to measure out both dye and water to get the right mix each time.
As the water/dye mixture is drunk, the colouring is absorbed into the feathers as they grow doing no harm to the bird.
Many pigeon breeders now use this method to scare off birds of prey around their lofts while the birds are flying around.
