What are the ingredients in the powder filled eggs ninjas used to carry?
I was watching this show about ninjas and they would blow out an egg, and then make this special powder to put in the egg and then seal the ends, then when confronted by an enemy they would break the egg shell in their hand and let the powder out and the powder would temporally blind or disorient the enemy and allow the ninja to escape. what is the ingredients to the powder? or what do you think would work in their place? it sounds like an early form of pepper spray
They used many things. Sometimes not just temporary blindness was desired but permanent. Sometimes they put shavings of metal or glass in with the powder. The powder itself was sand or something similar. They would sometimes turn dried peppers into dust and mix it in with the dirt or whatever. And today, when ninjutsu practitioners use powder for demonstrations they use mostly baby powder. There was no set way of making these blinding powders. Each ryu(school or clan) would have their own kind. Some with glass, some with peppers,...etc.
